Anti-Tension is our go-to service for folks who want a therapeutic massage but who do not have a complex medical history or do not need very detailed spot-treatment work. Our Targeted Therapeutic Massage is designed for people who do have complex needs, tough cases, or who prefer very specific work on their problem areas over a “full-body” massage.
Massage has well-documented effects of relieving stress, anxiety, pain, and muscular tension. The exact way that it works is still unclear, but most people enjoy all of these benefits, and more, from therapeutic touch.
You can expect a client-centered experience in which we develop an individualized massage session for you based on our intake process. We take your goals, overall health, past experience with massage, and sensitivities into account to create a treatment plan for you. We will adjust techniques, positioning, pressure, table temperature, lighting, scents used, etc.. to your needs. It is your time and you may always voice your needs for the session.
The duration varies from person to person and depends on your individual goals and case. Most people notice an improvement right away. Here are a few rules of thumb based on research and our experience:
Recent muscle spasm/soreness: One to three sessions can usually knock this out. For those who are prone to reinjury, regular maintenance can be helpful as needed.
Anxiety: Early studies show a series of weekly 45 Minute Sessions for six weeks can help
people improve, with follow ups as needed.
Depression: Early studies show a series of weekly 60 Minute Sessions for six weeks helped
people improve, with follow ups as needed.
Ongoing stress: Most people find coming in once or twice per month helpful for managing
ongoing stress.
Longer-term pain/tension patterns: Most people improve with a series of four to six weekly or bi-weekly sessions and then maintain bi-weekly or monthly.
Fill out your intake form in advance and arrive a few minutes prior to your session so that we can review the information with you. Think about your goals, focus areas (if any), and things that have/haven’t worked for you in the past.
