Many people find massage helpful for managing and improving their chronic pain. The mindful and well trained staff at Nimbus know how to address your chronic pain syndromes as well as degenerative and ortho-related pain.
Chronic Pain is a complex issue and should be addressed by a medical professional. But for many, massage is one management tool that can make a big difference in feeling better and living better.
If you have a chronic pain syndrome, massage is not a cure. However, many people find massage for chronic pain to be an effective method of reducing overall pain, improving sleep, and regaining some stamina and mobility for better daily functioning. Some people also find that they are able to work with their doctors to reduce their medication load. We recommend starting with a 30 minute session if you have never had massage before, or if you have had a flare-up after a massage before.
If you have a degenerative issue, massage is not going to reverse it, but it can help ease pain and stiffness and maintain flexibility. Some people use massage for prehab prior to joint replacement surgery (or to help them put off surgery for longer). We recommend starting with a targeted approach focusing solely on your problem area (30 minutes for arm, hand, leg, or foot; 60 minutes for neck, back, hip, shoulder, or TMJ).
If you have a repetitive motion or other injury, massage may be able to significantly improve pain, reduce scar tissue, and restore movement. If you have chronic headaches or muscular tension worsened by stress, massage may be able to reduce the frequency and severity of your flare-ups. We recommend a 60 minute full-body session with focus on your problem area(s).

Some of the techniques your therapist may employ during a Massage for Chronic Pain include: Myofascial Release, Stretching, Neuromuscular Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Connective Tissue Massage, Ortho-Bionomy, and Swedish Massage.
My physicians prescribed deep tissue massage therapy to treat my chronic pain caused by Fibromyalgia. For at least three years I have been seeing a massage therapist at Nimbus Massage. In addition to Fibromyalgia, I have severe joint instability (EDS Type III) so if my muscles are relaxed too much, too quickly, then my joint instability can worsen.
I found this out when I saw other massage therapists prior to starting my treatment at Nimbus. The therapist has a delicate and cautious touch, and has been able to find the right balance to treat my Fibromyalgia pain without worsening my joint instability. Her deep tissue massage therapy works better than pain medication for me.
In 2013, I was on Fentanyl patches, which are 50-100 times more powerful than morphine, but I unfortunately have insanely high metabolism so most medications don’t work for me. They either don’t work at all or they cause more severe side effects than benefits; sometimes both. I was able to go off the Fentanyl patches and have better pain relief after I started massage therapy at Nimbus.
